Monthly Trivia: April

by: Lili Pad

The month of April
April was originally the second month of the year in the Roman calendar and consisted of 30 days. It became the fourth month when January was designated the first month of the year around 450 BCE. April became the 30 days long again when Julius Caesar reformed the calendar. Its name is de- rived from the latin word “aperit”, which means ‘to open’. It is considered as the month of growing sea- son and when trees and flowers begin to open and blossom. It is also believed that its name is after the Greek goddess, Aphrodite (Aphros).

In other places it known as:
April or Aprilis – Old English

Aprilis or Aperit – Latin

Aphro – Greek

There are many kinds of diamonds: transpar- ent, translucent, or opaque; ranging from colorless to sooty black, with many colors in between. The color of a diamond depends on the kind of impurities em- bedded inside it. The diamond is the traditional birth- stone of April and holds significant meaning for those born in that month, thought to provide the wearer with better relationships and an increase in inner strength. Wearing diamonds is purported to bring other benefits such as balance, clarity and abundance.

The April flower is the Sweet Pea. This flower appears in a wide range of pastel colours and also blooms in two-tone varieties and symbolizes blissful pleasure, delicate pleasure, departure or goodbye, which ex- plains the message “Thank you for a Lovely Time”.
